VERSE 1 In my mind I’m still seventeen But, I’m just shy of turning 43 Looking back on my life Mistakes I’ve made and what I got right CHORUS Where does the time go How can a lifetime move so fast When so many days feel like They’ll never end - Where does the time go How can we make these memories last Instead of moving on To another thing - VERSE 2 We were young when we fell in love We’re older now, with two kids at home The path we’re on is where we’ll find Joy in life ain’t at the end of the line BRIDGE These are the best days of our lives While we’re together here, let’s embrace these years Don’t let them pass us by
2.
VERSE 1 Woven together from the best of you and me Our children have questions about our history Heirlooms we pass down as stories of home One day they’ll be singing songs of their own CHORUS I just want to know you, tell me all that you did Tell me all about the time when you were a kid Leave in the dirt, the parts you’d rather stay hid Tell me all about the time when you were a kid VERSE 2 When I was younger, we ran through the woods Fighting mythical forces invading our neighborhood To see who was bravest and could hold their will We’d take any challenge short of getting ourselves killed BRIDGE These roots and branches, no one can see Bind us together to form our family tree Our kids want to know all about the way back times The stories we share spark lights in their eyes
3.
Small Things 04:12
VERSE 1 For the first time in years I am awake To see the sun rise as Spring begins to break I breathe deeply, you make coffee Our children are sleeping We talk softly CHORUS It’s in times like these - I feel the small things That make it all seem A little less daunting When we are alone Yeah it’s the small things That make your heart sing Shining like moonbeams Over the lawn Then slowly over time Small things grow in size To become - The greatest part of life VERSE 2 As the years go by And time accelerates What I once took for granted I have grown to appreciate Moments like these over coffee To breathe in silence And hear your heart sing
4.
Remember 03:52
VERSE 1 Take time to listen and reflect Break free of the busy noose That’s tied around your neck CHORUS Remember - We used to sing, we used to dance When we were kids we had no plans Time was just a mystery Oh there is freedom in a glance At the wonder and romance Of the world our children see Remember - remember Remember the joy of being a child VERSE 2 We’ll live in castles made of sand And hunt for treasure With our imaginary friends We’ll catch stars and talk with trees Trust me, this all makes sense In the land of make believe BRIDGE Carve out a simple space to rest Free your mind of crippling thoughts That creep inside your head
5.
A Family 03:48
VERSE 1 I was a stranger and you welcomed me in To join a family and believe again Brothers and sisters in a body divine Where I know, I’m known, I know, I’m known CHORUS To see the world as you intend it to be To know love unconditionally To feel safe and truly be free As a family VERSE 2 Consider how we stir each other to seek Loving-kindness and the goodness we need Bear the burdens of each other in love To know, we’re known, To know, we’re known BRIDGE Where we’re welcomed in And we’re known as friends Where we mourn and cry Standing side by side Where our wounds can heal And we can be real Where the love of Christ Is our source of life We’re gonna raise our hands Gonna sing and dance We all celebrate As a family
6.
VERSE 1 Take these pieces These broken pieces Heartache we’ve carried so long Vessels of memories Held close by our family Long suffering heirlooms of loss CHORUS Mend with gold at the seams And restore them to life Beauty from ashes The fault lines will write Stories of how we survived We held on to the light VERSE 2 Resilience and patience Are brewed in our tea Alive in abundance no fear in scarcity Sing over creation With joy & delight Lament in your sorrow when it arrives with the night
7.
VERSE 1 We were just kids when we First met, but I knew instantly You were the only one for me Now we have - Two kids, responsibilities Long hours, working hard to be Present and live life joyfully PRE-CHORUS It feels like we’re Hanging on by a thread That’s unravelling - CHORUS As I go - Out of my mind Lost every time You go away And leave me babe I need you here To hold me tight And let me know It’ll be alright VERSE 2 Life is stream of consciousness One day, into the next No breaks in the ceaseless flow Never to - Let up, or cut you some slack Screaming babes and heart attacks Sleepless nights are what we expect
8.
Damage 04:14
VERSE 1 I get carried away, sometimes, I know Let the weight of the world bear down on my bones I get carried away, carried away, sometimes, I know I get carried away, placing my dreams upon your head All the things I wish I’d done instead I get carried away, carried away - sometimes, I know CHORUS Is it too late to turn it around Lord, help us Lord, help us Is it too late to turn it around Or, has the damage done Done us in for good VERSE 2 I got carried away, worried my days were passing me by But, I see now I missed the chance to live life by your side I get carried away, carried away - sometimes, I know BRIDGE I’m sorry I can’t give you back all the years I was selfish and blind I’m sorry I wasn’t the man that you needed, that you needed OUTRO Please, please, don’t give up on me Please, please, don’t give up on me Please, please, don’t give up on me
9.
VERSE 1 If you bend your tongue like a bow And let a deadly arrow go Or twist the truth bit by bit So that all the pieces fit How can we love our neighbor well If we’re only thinking of ourselves Watch your tongue Watch your tongue CHORUS Our words can heal and they can break Our words can give and they can take The words we use they carry a weight With consequences for what we say Watch your tongue Watch your tongue VERSE 2 What’s down in the well is gonna rise up When the buckets pulled to the top The heart is revealed in what we say So speak the truth with love and grace We’re called to love our neighbors well So we must think beyond ourselves BRIDGE What’s down in the well is gonna rise up
10.
Waiting for years on your own Hoping to find someone else who’s all alone But, everyone who comes by Who has that look in their eyes Well you don’t seem to fit into The space that they need What do they want of you? What do they need? You’re looking for someone, you can complete Will you ever find your Will you ever find your missing piece? Then one day a new shape rolls around With a different perspective than others you have found She said, everyone I pass by Who has that look in their eyes Well it don’t seem they understand What they really need There’s nothing I want of you Nothing I need I don’t need anyone to make me complete I don’t want to be your I don’t want to be your missing piece She said, everything changes and we must grow You can be someone’s and still be your own So you can choose to live life Stuck there on your side Or you can get up and Work to reshape your mind Cause you can be anything You can be free To follow your heart wherever it leads You are more than So much more than a missing piece -
11.
VERSE 1 Teach me to number The days I am given So when my name is called I feel that I’ve given My best existence And lived without regrets CHORUS I know the story Isn’t about me But, I hope to play my part the best I can Oh Lord, establish the work of my hands - VERSE 2 I toil and trouble The span of a life here I need your steadfast love Renewing the morning As I seek your wisdom To stay on the path you’ve made
12.
VERSE 1 When the leaves turn in the fall If you happen to think of me at all I hope all the good times we had Outweigh the bad I know I had my faults I was never good at small talk But I tried my best to be There when you needed me CHORUS I hope that’s how you remember me When I’m gone When I’m gone - VERSE 2 We kept yellow flowers in a vase On the table where we’d say grace And when our family gathered round It was such a beautiful sound Some nights our kids lay out in the yard On some old blankets counting stars Of all the years together we shared We were happy there CHORUS I hope that’s how you remember me When I’m gone When I’m gone -

about

First off, I’d like to say - thank you - for tuning in and listening to the songs I’ve already shared from the album over the past few months. Thank you for the encouraging words you’ve sent me and for sharing these songs with others.

Second, I’d like to thank all the incredible friends credited below who helped me in making “Stories from Home”. Thank you for offering your gifts and collaborating with me to make something beautiful. I believe art is worship - a holy offering to our Creator - and I hear the joyful noise of your praise in every note and see it in every image captured for the songs on this album.

Finally, I’ve seen the power in giving work over and over again this year and the freedom that comes in pursuit of living a generous life. We can believe & rest in the promise of abundance over scarcity because we have a generous God - the giver of every good and perfect gift, who loved us so much that he gave his own son Jesus to save us from ourselves - so that we can have real, eternal life with him (yes - even right now!).

“Stories from Home” is my gift to you - I hope these songs inspire you, point you to Jesus, and encourage you to live a generous life too.

-Thank You-

JMB.
